Will you teach your children what we have taught our children?  That the earth is our mother?

What befalls the earth befalls all the sons and daughters of the earth.

This we know: Mother Earth does not belong to man, man belongs to Mother Earth.  All things are connected like the blood that unites us all. Man did not weave the web of life, he is merely a strand in it.  What ever he does to the web, he does to himself.  ~words attributed to Chief Seattle ~ Speech surrendering to the U.S. Government in 1854

I don’t understand why when we destroy something created by man we call it VANDALISM, but when we destroy something created by nature we call it PROGRESS. ~ Ed Begley, Jr.

I know today is Hump Day and you may be expecting something a little more erotic from me, but I have been silent for far to long on subjects that are near and dear to my heart.  This maybe a long read but, I promise not to preach or scold. It is my hope to educate and speak today for one who cannot. Mother Earth is in pain…

Over the years the Monarch butterfly has figured predominately in my life.  It is one of my spirit totems.  Each year I await their return to my garden and each year I have noticed fewer. I even have a tattoo of a monarch on my…well let’s just leave it as I have a tattoo of a monarch 🙂

Since 1990 it is estimated that 970 million Monarch butterflies have vanished died due to having their habitats destroyed by man.  Destroyed by building on their habitats and the use of insecticides/pesticides by homeowners and farmers alike. It is calculated that about only 30 million Monarch butterflies remain in the Americas.  It could be more, but what if it is less?

What most consider to be a useless weed; the milkweed plant, is the life source for the Monarch butterfly. I was taught at an early age to respect Mother Earth and all creatures that inhabit her lands, and that we are all brothers and sisters.  Those teachings I have passed down to my children and my grandchildren.  We are and must be her guardians for future generations.

It breaks my heart to see more and more of Mother Earth’s creatures disappear from her land.  Many disappear forever everyday.  You can read more about the Monarch butterfly’s plight and how you can help here.  It is my hope that you and yours become guardians of Mother Earth. It’s not that hard to do.

I will leave you with this sobering thought. You have heard of the honeybee’s plight?  It is estimated that if the honeybee disappears from Mother Earth man will only have four years left to walk this land then he will disappear as well. Does that wake you up ?  We are all connected, and it is true that what we do to the web, we do to ourselves.

I wish you a Happy Hump Day.  Be kind to one another and to our Mother Earth.  TWMA♥
