The storytellers/authors of my youth include Scheherazade, Hans Christian Anderson, J.R.Tolkien, The Brothers Grimm, Frank Baum, Jules Vern and anything Greek Mythology.  There are other storytellers/authors I have discovered throughout my life, who I have grown to love but these are the ones that made such an impression on the young me that I read them still today.

Some of my most favorite stories are from the collection called 1,001 Arabian nights. The stories are wonderful, but it’s the woman Scheherazade herself who told them during those nights that I admire even more.

The story goes something like this…

The king of Persia discovered his wife to be unfaithful.  Having put his queen to death for her betrayal he vowed to marry a new virgin each day then behead her the next so she would have no chance to be unfaithful to him.  It is said after a thousand days no further virgins could be found to be suitable as they had all been beheaded. Imagine that!  Anyways…Scheherazade, against her father the vizier wishes, volunteered to spend one night with the king. A plan was implemented to have her sister request a story before bidding farewell.  The king laid there awake listening to the story and when she stopped at the cliffhanger begged her to continue. Scheherazade said she could not as dawn was breaking. So the king spared her life just so she could finish the story later that night. Upon finishing the story she began another, and just like the night before stopped at the cliffhanger as dawn was breaking.  This continued on for 1,001 nights until Scheherazade told the king she had no more stories to tell.  During those 1,001 nights the king had fallen in love with her, so he spared her life and made Scheherazade his queen.

Let me say here and now I am no author, but, I do love a good story and sometimes little stories (somewhat erotic in nature of course) form in my head and I put them to paper.  They are not complete stories, maybe a paragraph, or two, or three in length.  I email each and every one to Henry and I always stop at a cliffhanger of sorts.  When Henry logs into Second Life we have been known to pick up where the story left off, and like Scheherazade I haven’t lost my head…yet.   Maybe as a storyteller I ain’t so bad? Be kind to one another.  TWMA♥
