I’ve held on to this post, uncertain if I should even acknowledge these pitiful creatures. Written a week ago, there have been several rewrites since then. It is time. My unedited thoughts can be found on my Flickr.
I lead a relatively quiet, uneventful life in Second Life these days. Well, as quiet and uneventful as it can get for Second Life and Cougar, lol. That was not the case during the first year of residency here in SL. I was griefed and trolled to the extent it was difficult to enjoy doing anything here. It came to light that a spurned suitor had set his hounds from hell upon me. Thinking back about it, I’m sure they had a good laugh at my expense. I’ve never forgotten that experience and how helpless I felt and how ill-equipped I was to protect myself. Fast forward to the present.
The first IM I received a few weeks ago took me totally by surprise. Then one message became five, five became twenty, and so on. Last week by Wednesday, I had one hundred-eighty-seven private messages for the week. I’ve racked my brain, trying to figure out who I may have wronged, and I have come to the conclusion I haven’t wronged anyone. This is jealousy, pure and simple, over some perceived idea that I was horning in on someone’s territory. All of this over a man? Are you kidding me? How petty can one get?
I’ve done what has been recommended by Linden Labs. I am no longer a helpless and ill-equipped Cougar in this virtual world. In my eleven years here, no matter how bad it’s been, I’ve never considered leaving and never considered using an alt to ‘disappear’ into Second Life. I refuse to let supposedly adults that act like children dictate my Second Life. Cougar is here to stay, and I say to the troll/trolls, “Bless your heart. I’ll pray for you” Smiles.
